Photoshop for Architects: CS3 Extended Edition (Video)

Module 1 - Fundamentals

Learn Photoshop from the ground up - no experience required. This module teaches essential computer imaging concepts, how to make the most of the CS3 user interface, best workflows in the Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw, understanding the Photoshop toolbox, fills, patterns, gradients & strokes, transformation, vector objects, layers, blending options, styles, effects, masking and channels, clipping masks, layer groups, layer comps, adjustment layers, levels, curves, color modes, filters, blur, sharpen, noise, fade, smart objects, and smart filters.

This module contains 100 high resolution videos running 7.7 hours overall. I explain each concept and technique using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, although many of the concepts and techniques are applicable to other versions of Photoshop. The videos are captured right off my screen and you can hear my audio commentary.

Due to the subject matter, this module focuses more on fundamental concepts, rather than on tutorials that have you building things—you'll work on projects in later modules once you have developed solid foundation skills.

Module 2 - Enhancing Drawings

Learn how to transform technical plan, section, and elevation line drawings into beautiful presentation images that your clients will immediately understand. Use the provided Lisp program to convert layers from AutoCAD to Photoshop, and see how to preserve scale in Photoshop (both Imperial and Metric units covered), so you can print out the enhanced artwork to scale (i.e. 1/4"=1' or 1:50 scale).

This module is filled with advanced Photoshop enhancement techniques. Although there is some overlap with my original Plans & Elevations module, this module goes into greater depth and adds more efficient enhancement tips & tricks representing years of additional research. Having CS3 Extended is a plus, but not strictly necessary for this particular module, as the techniques will work back to Photoshop 7.

This module contains 50 high resolution videos running 3.6 hours overall. I explain each concept and technique using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, although many of the concepts and techniques are applicable to other versions of Photoshop. The videos are captured right off my screen and you can hear my audio commentary.

This module focuses on the specific project of enhancing a simple residential plan drawing and takes you step by step from the CAD drawing in AutoCAD to print-ready artwork in Photoshop. The skills learned can be applied equally well to enhancing elevation and section drawings.

Module 3 - Compositing and Illustration

Learn a wide range of pro compositing tricks that empower you to create stunning presentation imagery in Photoshop—all in a fraction of the time compared with photo-realistic 3D rendering. Use my provided MAXScript programs that export advanced channels from 3ds Max to style 3D objects in Photoshop. Learn how to composite 3D render elements, how to mask and paint 3d models, how to illustrate 3D renderings with smart filters and/or the art history brush, and how to extract and composite architectural entourage.

This Compositing and Illustration module includes all my original Compositing module content and much more. This module has five new tutorials covering an impressive array of useful techniques. Having CS3 Extended is a plus, but not strictly necessary for this particular module, as most of the techniques will work back to Photoshop CS.

This module contains 64 high resolution videos running 3.8 hours overall. I explain each concept and technique using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, although many of the concepts and techniques are applicable to other versions of Photoshop. The videos are captured right off my screen and you can hear my audio commentary.

Module 4 - Multiple Exposure Magic

Harness the power of multiple exposures to enhance and expand your creative abilities. Learn how to expand the dynamic range of an image by combining two bracketed images through an innovative masking technique. Create true HDR datasets in Photoshop CS3 Extended and learn workflows to downsample them to yield usable images and how to directly employ HDR imagery in 3ds Max to create stunning 3D renderings with image-based-lighting and HDR reflection maps.

Turn a sequence of hand-held shots into a seamless panorama and then learn how to make it interactive on the web with open-source java applet PTviewer. Work with smart object image stacks and perform simultaneous processing across all the images in the stack to produce seemingly "magic" results. Learn how to eliminate all moving objects and noise in an image stack and how to clone back in selected portions with the Clone Stamp tool's new clone source pallete.

This module contains 23 high resolution videos running 1.5 hours overall. I explain each concept and technique using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, although many of the concepts and techniques are applicable to other versions of Photoshop. The videos are captured right off my screen and you can hear my audio commentary.

Module 5 - Playing with Perspective

Go beyond pixel pushing and harness the third dimension to skillfully manipulate perspective and make your presentation images shine. Master the use of 3D layers to create 3d entourage that fits within interior spaces, match real and virtual perspectives to integrate a proposed design into a site photo, and render cool hybrid images that combine illustrative, cross-sectional, and rendered qualities.

See how the amazing Vanishing Point filter has matured in CS3 Extended and learn how to replace textures and paint in perspective, measure distances in photos, and turn a photo into a 3D model or even a short video (with After Effects). Learn how to alter what the virtual camera lens sees with tutorials on lens correction, lens blur, lens flare, and simulating objects in motion.

This module contains 43 high resolution videos running 2.4 hours overall. I explain each concept and technique using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, although many of the concepts and techniques are applicable to other versions of Photoshop. The videos are captured right off my screen and you can hear my audio commentary.

Module 6 - Animation and Video

Explore an entirely new dimension in Photoshop—time. Learn how to create frame-by-frame animations and/or keyframe smooth transitions on CS3 Extended's new timeline. Animate 3D layers, title text, smart-object sub-animations, and more. See for youself how to make layers pop with moving masks, layer positions, changing opacities, and animated layer styles.

Learn how to alter existing video clips—whether live action or pre-rendered 3D animation—with all the power of Photoshop's adjustment layers and smart filters. Paint directly on video frames in a process called rotoscoping to enhance video, and even create your own time-lapse video from a sequence of stills.

This module contains 24 high resolution videos running 1.5 hours overall. I explain each concept and technique using Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, although many of the concepts and techniques are applicable to other versions of Photoshop. The videos are captured right off my screen and you can hear my audio commentary.
